2008 Napa Valley Cabernet Franc,

{Sold out}

Cabernet Franc continues to be Stéphane’s favorite grape, and with this alluring, complex wine he feels he’s made his most exciting example yet.  Harvested from a small block of vines in Caldwell Vineyard in the hills of Coombsville, this wine exhibits the sophistication and vitality that reflects its place of origin. The weather conditions in 2008 favored cool-climate, high-elevation sites like this one, cloistered from the valley’s heat spikes and basking in the gentle morning sun.  The result is a wine of aromatic brilliance and impressive depth that shows the potential of this intriguing varietal.  For Stéphane, this Cab Franc epitomizes what he loves about our 2008 range – the wine possesses remarkable expressiveness and generosity even in its early stages, while retaining the elegance and age-worthiness that Stéphane prizes.

Heady and luxurious, the 2008 Cab Franc exudes class, mystery and power.  Seductive aromas of ripe black fruits and cherry compote animate the bouquet, accented by enticing scents of freshly-picked violets, garden sage and green peppercorn.  A spicy herbal kick and fresh tobacco leaves add a distinctive tone to the nose, unique among Napa wines.  The palate possesses similar flavors but wrapped in a stylishly bold texture that fills every corner of the mouth with layers of rich, sweet fruit and luscious acidity.  Finishing long and deep with a prolonged essence of black licorice and espresso, the wine is a feast for the senses.  Savory and sultry yet fresh and pure, the 2008 Cab Franc offers what Stéphane calls a “gastronomique” experience – the complex and diverse flavors of a great meal, present all at once in a single glass.

“The 2008 Cabernet Franc Coombsville emerges from the glass with expressive dark fruit, mocha, espresso, licorice and spices. There is gorgeous depth in the glass, not to mention considerable complexity. This is a full-throttle, totally exciting wine.”
-- The Wine Advocate (Antonio Galloni)
“Very ripe and fleshy, with pure, rich dark berry and raspberry flavors. Both supple-textured and well-structured, ending with fine-grained tannins that give this traction. A classy Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2024.”
-- Wine Spectator Magazine (James Laube)
